• A water plant with similarly-shaped spiked seeds is called the " water caltrop ", " Trapa natans ".
• This helps support rare plants such as the common water chestnut ( " Trapa natans " ) grow near the lake.
• Technically, they are corms, or fleshy underground stems, of the water chestnut plant ( Trapa natans ), which grows along the muddy edges of ponds and lakes, or in flooded fields.
